Donald Trump was officially sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on 20 January 2025. Many high-profile business and political leaders attended the event, including TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew and close ally Elon Musk.
Among the attendees was Vice-President Han Zheng, serving as Xi Jinping’s special representative. This marked the first time a senior Chinese leader has been present at such an occasion.
Trump stopped short of immediately imposing tariffs on China on his first day in the White House and also granted TikTok a reprieve. Could this signal a positive shift in the US-China rivalry?
