You can, actually learn like a child, full of wonder again. Neuroscientist Gül Dölen is exploring the potential of psychedelic drugs to reopen “critical periods” in the brain—windows of heightened neuroplasticity that allow young children to learn skills like language and social interaction with ease. In adulthood, these periods naturally close, making learning and adaptation more difficult. Dölen believes psychedelics could temporarily restore this childhood-like learning ability, offering new treatments for conditions such as PTSD, stroke recovery, and even sensory impairments.
