a little anthropology is necessary here. For hundreds of thousands of years, probably millions of years, humans have evolved as a tribal species. The tribal leader(s) made the decisions and the rest followed along. If not, a new leader appeared or the tribe was assimilated or decimated by another.
This was a stable species organization until the invention of agriculture. Reason and logic are quite new inventions compared to pressure of tribal cohesion.
The problems of today are not a failure of the tribal members but a failure of the leaders. I suspect in prehistory, psychopaths made good warriors, but were not necessarily chosen as leaders. Today a significant percentage of CEOs (27% IIRC), politicians, media personalities, even clergy are psychopaths or related personality disorders. Clergy is the 8th most popular profession for psychopaths.
Elon Musk is a perfect example. He and his buddy, Peter Thiel, are supporting Trump so that their minion JD Vance will become de facto president when Trump goes off the rails.
The short run approach in the US is for the tribes within the Democratic party to strengthen their support of Harris. The protest of the Michigan Palestinians against Biden is stupid. A man who is in bed with Netanyahu is far worse than a woman who doesn't like him.
The problem isn't the followers it's the leaders. I suspect it's the same in the UK.

Is It Time To Admit That The Critical Mass of Humanity are Profoundly Stupid and Cannot Be Saved?

Some seem hung up on the word “generational” but this stupidity runs across the board! There are people in their 60s, 70s & 80s online acting absolutely nuts & not from dementia! 

We are circling the drain & this iteration of humanity has apparently reached its apex & now on the decline. Time for a reboot! :)

The purpose of every new generation has to be to irritate the generation that went before them. They will in turn look at whatever comes after with the same judgement as we apply to them. i think they are lot more aware than we credit them.

Once upon a time, before the age of the devices and the internet there existed a state amongst children, teenagers and adults called "boredom"
That state introduced and promoted by schools and schoolwork made everyone aware of it and conscious of having to do something to cope with it.
It was important to teach people about how to deal with boredom because life and work had a lot of it. But everyone had to learn how to deal with it their own way and the usual means were to engage with others, make friends, play sport and other such interactive things .
The point is that having to deal with boredom created a mindset that could deal with it when you were on your own or in many social and work areas where it manifested itself. And that did not lead to mental problems there were no alternative avenues to distract you, you had to develop the self-discipline to survive.
The age of the devices has changed all this, there is constantly the possibility of distraction by recourse to phone or tablet and as a consequence of this and the constant need to appear in some way in social loops on the social platforms social discourse and interaction have been cheapened in the content and the quality of interaction generally. The constant availability of an alternative takes away the reflection and the demand of having to live in your own mental space without any outside help
I suggest that the superficiality, the culture, comes from this personal inability to cope with being bored, even of oneself and developing the resources to cope with it.
My feeling is that much creativity comes from the isolation in which boredom is created and that the culture which you and I value comes from the fact that we may be the last generation to appreciate that.
