Really interesting (and scary) article about the declining birth rate. They took a closer look at South Korea, which has a fertility rate of 0.72, which essentially means that a group of 100 South Koreans will have 5 grand kids. The author made observations about how a low birth rate can affect a city (in this case, Seoul).

While I fully agree Immigration should be a competitive advantage for all nations, recent trends are largely opposed to it.  Notably the best example of its benefit, the United States is may be on the verge of doing away with TALENT and SKILL based immigration visas.

“Once you get an inverted demographic pyramid, at some point do you vote for benefits for the old or for the young? If the people with kids get financially penalized and the people without kids vote benefits for themselves, it will be very difficult to flip back.” 

Long clip but worth watching the whole thing.
